Direct answer
The minimum viable inquiry
Tell the supplier what you pack, the format you buy, the dimensions, roughly how much you use, where it ships, and what file or sample you can provide. That is enough to decide which questions come next.
- Product and package format
- Dimensions
- Annual usage and normal order quantity
- Ship-to ZIP
- Current sample, spec, or artwork
- Problem to solve, if any
For roll stock
Add web width, repeat/cutoff, machine make and model, unwind direction, core ID, maximum roll OD or weight, structure and gauge if known, surface/reverse print, colors, eye mark, and splice requirements.
For pouches and bags
Add outside dimensions, gusset, lip, wicket layout, zipper or closure, tear notch, hang hole, corners, packout, structure/gauge if known, filling method, and seal process.
Performance and approval
State barrier requirements with units and test conditions, target shelf life, freezer or hot-fill exposure, puncture or drop requirements, seal contamination, migration/compliance documentation, and approved quality tolerances where they exist.
Do not invent missing data
If the structure is unknown, say so. If the quantity is an estimate, label it. If the launch date is a target, explain what approvals remain. Accurate uncertainty is more useful than false precision.
| Have this? | Send it | It may reveal |
|---|---|---|
| Approved spec | PDF or original document | Structure, gauge, dimensions, tolerances |
| Artwork | AI/PDF + dieline | Repeat, colors, eye mark, print layout |
| Roll label | Clear photo | Width, length/weight, item code, lot |
| Package sample | Unused + filled if possible | Format, features, handling |
| Purchase history | PO quantities and frequency | Commercial volume pattern |
Questions buyers ask
Can I get a quote without artwork?
Often a preliminary quote can start without final artwork if dimensions, estimated colors, print coverage, quantities, and format are known. Final pricing and production still need approved art inputs.
What if I do not know annual usage?
Share recent order quantity and order frequency, or provide a reasonable range. Label it as an estimate.
