The Email Dimensions and Artwork Did Not Match.

Why a packaging quote paused when two supposedly authoritative dimensions disagreed.

The situation

A packaging request included dimensions in the written inquiry and an artwork file intended for production review.

What complicated it

The numbers did not match. Building the quote from the email could price one package while prepress prepared another. Building it from the art without telling the buyer would leave an unspoken assumption in the job.

How the question was approached

The artwork became the working reference because it represented what would print, but the discrepancy needed to be surfaced and resolved. The durable fix is an approved dieline or drawing that purchasing, design, prepress, and production all recognize as the controlled dimension record.

What a buyer should know

  • Put dimensions in a controlled drawing.
  • Call out conflicts before quoting or tooling.
  • Record which file revision governs the job.
