Can Flexible Packaging Be Quoted From a Photo?

What a photo can establish—and what still needs to be supplied or confirmed.

Short answer

A photo can start the conversation, but it usually cannot support a final production quote by itself. It may show the package format, artwork, and approximate proportions. It cannot reliably establish the complete film structure, gauge, barrier, sealant, coatings, roll specifications, or annual volume.

Make the photo more useful

Photograph the front, back, seals, gusset, zipper or closure, and any roll label. Include a ruler in one image. Add the finished dimensions, product, filling method, current quantity, annual usage, and where the package ships.

Send a sample when matching matters

If the goal is a second source or close match, send an unused current package and any approved specification you can find. A photo is useful for triage; it is not a substitute for physical review and validation.
