Flexible-packaging glossary

Gauge

A packaging thickness expression whose meaning depends on the material and industry convention; for many flexible films, 100 gauge is commonly treated as 1 mil.

Why buyers encounter it

Confirm the supplier's convention and specification tolerance. Use conversion as a communication aid, not a product approval.

Use the term carefully

This definition helps interpret a packaging conversation. It does not establish a complete film structure, machine setting, regulatory conclusion, shelf-life result, or approval for a particular application.
